About the event

Two-day class: September 9 and 23

This class will add another way to experience our September–October Edible Art Show; learning to draw and paint produce from the Jamestown Farmers Market with Fredonia Plein Air Painter Thomas Annear. We will meet at the Chautauqua Art Gallery to start the class and then we will go across the street to explore the market and pick out the subjects for our still lives. We will then return to the Gallery to set up our still lifes and begin sketching.

We will discuss the history of produce paintings and still life focusing on the California Movement and their use of light in paintings while we create. Once artists have decided on their compositions we will review the basics of oil painting and start our paintings. The second class will build on the first with the goal of finishing the first painting and starting a second. Artists can work in other mediums if they prefer but the class will be geared towards painting in oil.  More information on artist Thomas Annear: thomasannear.com

An additional $10 supply fee is due to the instructor at the start of class or, you are welcome to bring your own materials. (Easels available in the gallery)

Supply list: Paints, pallets, easels, canvas or board, odorless mineral spirits, and drawing supplies.
